The purpose of JANNAF is to promote and facilitate exchange of technical and programmatic information among the Military Departments, Defense Agencies, NASA, U.S. industry, and academia. This mission is accomplished through real-time technical exchange occurring at each of the twice-annual JANNAF meetings, recurring work of JANNAF technical panels and working groups, and through resources made available to the U.S. propulsion and energetics industrial base.

Ask a Technical Inquiry

JANNAF is supported by a staff of engineers and scientists at JHU ERG who are available to answer technical questions related to propulsion and energetics. This service is free to the U.S. Government. If JHU ERG is not able to answer your inquiry using JANNAF, other government, or academic research tools then they may be able to reach out to the broader JANNAF community to find you the answers you need. This service is available to U.S. military, civil servants, and JHU ERG subscribers.

Publish in the Journal of Propulsion & Energetics

The JANNAF Journal of Propulsion and Energetics is an unclassified, limited-distribution technical journal dedicated to the publication of scholarly work in the fields of aerospace propulsion and energetic materials research and development. The objective of the JANNAF Journal is to provide a forum for the propulsion community to recognize scientists and engineers conducting significant work; to provide refereed review of limited-distribution and export-controlled work; and to archive the achievements of individuals in the industry. The Journal covers a broad range of topics in the areas of systems and components, propulsion and energetic materials technology, and systems applications. Journal articles are published within JDOC upon final editorial approval.

Research Using the JANNAF Digital Online Collection (JDOC)

As part of the JANNAF mission, all of the technical papers presented at JANNAF meetings, as well as any standards, guides, or publications authored by the JANNAF community are archived and available through the JANNAF Digital Online Collection (JDOC); this represents more than 27,000 documents covering the last 75 years of technical achievement in propulsion and energetics, with approximately 500 new documents added annually. JDOC is free to U.S. Government users.

JANNAF Digital Online Collection (JDOC) (login required)

Non-government access is granted for 1 year from the date of JANNAF meeting attendance and serves as the proceedings for the meeting.

Non-government users wishing to access JDOC and all of the databases may subscribe to JHU ERG technical services.

Access JANNAF databases

Tracing their origin to the CPIA M manuals, each of the databases is updated with new information as it becomes available and represents the most comprehensive collection of scientific and technical information on propulsion systems, propellants, and facilities available to the rocket propulsion and greater JANNAF community today.

Access to the JANNAF databases is free to U.S. Government users. Non-government users wishing to access JDOC and all of the databases may subscribe to JHU ERG technical services.

Use JANNAF computer codes

As a service to the propulsion and plume/wake/hypersonic flowfield/hardbody signature communities, the JANNAF EPSS (via the JANNAF Technical and Support Contractor, JHU ERG) provides several government-sponsored propulsion and flowfield phenomena computer codes. More information about these codes and the application process is available to users with JANNAF Accounts.
